Lau Biang - Sei Wampu : A River With Many Names

The Wampu River is a river in North Sumatra, Indonesia. It rises as the Lau Biang river (means The Dog River : as according to local folklore, only a dog could survive swimming in it ) in Karo Regency near Siberaya, flowing past Kabanjahe, Perbesi, Kuta Buluh, Marike and onto Bohorok in Langkat Regency, where the river is known as the Wampu. It flows past Stabat and Tanjung Langkat before emptying into the Strait of Malacca.

The water is crystal clear, flowing pretty swiftly from the dense Mount Leuser National Park. Rafting across the Sei Wampu is such a temptation, as we conquer the grade 2 rapids from around 4 hours. While taming down the rapids, we are taken to enjoy a virgin rain forest. Going for a longer trip, maybe you should try trekking after rafting plus safari with a jeep.
