Sumatra : Lampulo Tourism Village, Aceh



Gampong ( Village ) Lampulo is located at the edge of krueng Aceh that ends at the sea. It is a part of villages in Kuta Alam sub district, Banda Aceh has an area of 54.5 hectares and population of 5.071 people ( 2010 data ).



Historical Tourism

One of the most famous tourism objects in Lampulo it the ship upon a house ( Kapal Bubong ). This wooden ship with 22 meters long and 5.5 meters width and weight 20 tons. This tourism object is a silent witness of the earthquake and tsunami on 26th December 2004. This fisherman ship was stranded on the roof of a house after tsunami stroke. More than 100 local and foreign tourist visit this unique ship everyday.

There area also tsunami museum. Seen from above the museum resembles tsunami wave but seen from aside, it looks like a ship with its chimney. The museum displays the tracking record of tsunami through various media such as audio visual, numerous photographs, and tsunami simulator. When entering the museum yard, visitors will find a POLRI helicopter wreck that has been a silent witness of tsunami. The helicopter was about to take off when tsunami stroke.

In addition, there are other tourism objects such as fishing spot, fisherman kampong, and number of home industries supporting tourism sector.

Traditional Cuisines

Lampulo as the fisherman area has various number of unique cuisine, namely Keumanah fish ( Skip jack tuna ), abon ikan ( Shredded fish ), dendeng ikan ( fish jerky ), etc.

Unique Crafts

The home industrial products of tsunami victims become the typical Aceh crafts. The typical Aceh fishery product, like ikan layu or keumanah fish amd Aceh embroidery can be tourist souvenirs. To market their products, Lampulo village officials build tourism stalls. The stalls are located in the tsunami site area of ship upon the house.

How To Get There

There is no public transportation passing through  the area. If you want to ride becak motor  ( tricycle vehicle ), you can find it around the bus station or Aceh market in downtown. Another option is to rent a taxi from the airport. Airport taxies are cars like Avanza or APV
