Sumatra : Lubuk Sukon Tourism Village, Aceh




Gampong Lubuk Sukon has an area 112 hectares with 920 people. It is one of gampong ( Village ) in Aceh with well preserved local wisdom, high social awareness, sustained Islamic celebration as well as preserved traditional heritage. This village is located in Ingin Jaya sub-district, Aceh Besar district. Most of the houses on this lowland village are Aceh traditional anti-earthquake wooden houses.

Traditional House
Lubuk Sukon village has been keeping Aceh traditional heritage and spill represent the genuine Aceh way of living among others through its preserved traditional houses.
The houses and the yards are dominated by rumoh Aceh fenced by tea plants. There are at least 69 unit of genuine Aceh house, 58 unit of santeut house and 64 unit modern house. Aceh house are like other ordinary raised still house supported by 12 main pillars or more, as big as the trunks of coconut tree. Its wall are carved woods and its roof is dried sago palm leaves 2 -3 meters high.

Tourism Village Activities
In a way, Lubuk Sukon can be considered as truly Aceh, thus the village offer nature tourism activities such as going to a rice field with villagers, planting vegetables, cooking Aceh traditional cuisine as well as home staying and testing the routine of village life with the one of the village families.

Traditional Art
One of Lubuk Sukon traditional arts is the art of Rapai playing. Rapai is kind of percussion commonly played to accompany traditional art performance. The form resembles tambourine with black and yellow basic colors. Rapai are mainly made of wood and animal skin.

Traditional Events
Traditional and customs being held are Kenduri ceremonies : Kenduri Apam, Kenduri Blang ( going to ricefield ), Kenduri Tulak Bala, Kenduri Maulod ( Celebrating the birthday of Prophet Muhammad PBUH ), Isra Miraj, Nisfu Syaban ( Held on the 15 th of Shaban in Meunasah ), Siploh Muharram ( On 10 th Muharram as the ceremony to commemorate the death of the Prophet grandsons, Hasan and Husen ), Peutamat Daurih ( Finishing reading Quran/Khatam ), Kenduri 27 Pusasa ( Celebrating th 27 th night of Ramadhan ), Kenduri Boh Kayee ( fruit feast held in Jumada Al-akhir ), and feast related to life cycle such as death ceremony.

How To Get There 

It only takes 13 kilometres or 15-20 minutes of two wheeled vehicle riding to get to this village. From Lambaro Airport at Jalan Belawan Aceh - Medan, we simply need to turn left to reach there. After passing the bridge that connects two part of Krueng Aceh, we will finally arrive at this village.
